AURORA: Science Mission on Mars, basis for the generic Avionics System Modeling & Simulation
AURORA: Science Mission on Mars, basis for the generic Avionics System Modeling & Simulation

I worked at Alcatel Space, now Thales Alenia, that participates in numerous programs with various applications (telecommunications, military observation, research, etc.). Among the most important in 2000's: MSG (Meteosat Second Generation) for the European organization EUMETSAT.

I participated to a major ESA projet (AURORA) for a Science mission on Mars, in particular the generic satellite avionics modelling and simulation integrated in Alcatel Space Development Standard (DHDC).

I ensured the full compliance with DO178B DAL A, CMMI L3 and EN9100 on the Inertial Reference Software of the Airbus A400M Navigation System, deploying the entire SAGEM Defense A400M SW Process from the traceability of the SW requirements to the implementation of the unit and SW/SW integration testing in an offshore supplier in India. Autonomously supported Customer Audit for DO178B DAL A compliance. I hired 2 SWQA Engineers, setup from scratch and managed 3 offshore test suppliers until delivery acceptance and warranty phase.

CROSSRAIL / Elizabeth Line (London): SW Safety Assessor
CROSSRAIL / Elizabeth Line (London): SW Safety Assessor

I performed the EN50126/8 SW Safety Assessment on the CROSSRAIL Communication & Control Systems (Elizabeth Line), including offline rating of the standard clauses, reviews of the available evidence, onsite interviews/demo, interim onsite conclusion meeting, post-rating of late evidence, final presentation of the results to Senior Management, support to corrective action plan. See feedback from my Manager (K. Toon, now retired, so not visible on LinkedIn anymore but extracted from my ltd company website) in section below.

2 ASPICE/ISO15504 Assessments on an Electric Truck Battery Sensor
2 ASPICE/ISO15504 Assessments on an Electric Truck Battery Sensor

I performed 2 ASPICE/ISO15504 Assessments on a Volvo Electric Truck Battery Sensor, supported by another ASPICE Provisional Assessor (The Group Safety & SWQA Manager M. Quaglia - See his recommendation below): The VP Quality of LEM group (see his recommendation extracted from LinkedIn in below section) during the concluding meeting of my first ASPICE Assessment at LEM Tech France said, "With Antoine, we do not need a large external agency."

My second ASPICE assessment at LEM tech France led to a major initiative approved by the CTO regarding Configuration Management and Documentation Management processes due to the critical non-conformities I identified both at the low SW level (in particular, polyspace automatic code analyses deactivated in CI/CB process for a while causing huge bottleneck of defects to analyse just before PPAP/SOP milestones) and the high level of documentation management (no use of the available state of the art configuration/documentation tools like Sharepoint and Confluence, and still storing/archiving project documentation on a project server without versioning tool like SVN leading to a very chaotic CM/DM process leading to a huge loss of time/money and a poor quality).

I defined the roadmap of this initiative in 7 WPs/phases that were implemented by an external consultant specifically hired for this topic. More than 2Meuros to save per year after implementation (#500keuros/year/site + huge improvement in quality/safety/reliability due to automation of the versioning and configuration management practices).

Performed #50 CMMI/SCRUM project audits to renew CMMI L3 certification in Aviation industry
Performed #50 CMMI/SCRUM project audits to renew CMMI L3 certification in Aviation industry

I performed about 50 ATM/Aviation project audits against the internal QMS to renew the certification CMMI Level 3 and show our compliance with the FULL Agile SCRUM methodology (and not just a subset). The audit used to lasts 5 days including 3 days of evidence review and checklist rating, 1 day of interviews of the PM and Test Manager/Lead and 1 day of Audit report documentation, reporting to Senior Management and formal publication. This has been a very intensive 15 months Delivery Assurance Program that led to the renewal of the CMMI L3 certification so important for SITA.

I also performed a Cybersecurity Audit on an ATM system during 2 days against the internal CSMS (compliant with ISO27001/2) whose main work product is the Security Workbook including the testing of the security requirements which has then been the main topic of the results of the audit shared with the architect of the product.

You can find in the last section of this page, an excellent recommendation from the Senior Legal & Quality Operations Manager who hired me.

I found a free and very good Quality/Safety ALM to prepare, perform and report audit activities: SafetyCulture.com

In this case, I configured it for one of the ECSS standard, in particular the SW Product Assurance one (ECSS-Q-ST-80C Rev.1).

It is much more convenient for all phases of the audit, from the preparation, execution, consolidation of the rating and interviews, and reporting of the results (You can add Notes, attach evidence / links / other media and create preventive / corrective actions that you'll collect automatically in the report of the audit.

I'm in touch with a spanish startup specialized in AI (https://buho.framer.ai/) to collaborate at one point and use their AI tool to "digest" all main quality / safety / security / management standards and automatically fill in ISO9001, DO178C, EN9100, ECSS, ISO26262, PMBoK, EN50126/8... templates that, for the moment I can only document manually (by copy-paste), which is very time-consuming (and a boring job).

As a natural leader, I like to:

  • work with state-of-the-art processes and tools and encourage my colleagues to do the same by showing them the gains in efficiency and quality/reliability of the work done

  • work with online ALMs/PLMs (CodeBeamer, TuleAp, Polarion, HPQC, SharePoint, Ms Project Server, JIRA, SafetyCulture, etc.) and store/manage in configuration the bare minimum work products (xls, doc, pdf, ppt, etc.) in adequate versioning / configuration mgt tools (SharePoint, Confluence, Tortoise SVN, GIT, etc.)

In this perspective, I found that in all the roles of auditors/assessors that I have had (except in Valeo in the first successful SCAMPI CMMI L2 Appraisal in the French industry where ALL4TEC consultant offered us to work with "Appraisal Assistant" tool, a free rich client PC-based SW tool developed by Griffith University-Software Quality Institute, it covers the needs to perform ISO15504/ASPICE Assessments and CMMI Appraisals, it is not web-based but you can easily merge the work from the different co-auditors at the end of each day, I liked it, you can download it here), there was a real lack of interactive Quality/Safety audit ALM allowing for the reduction of all traditional documentation (xls, doc, ppt, pdf, Google suite, etc.), to work online and collaboratively, and to simplify all phases of an audit, from preparation, review of evidence, execution of interviews, participation in demonstrations, association of evidence (links, documents, videos, etc.), intermediate and final phases of results consolidation, automation of reporting and communication of audit results, publication of the reports...

CROSSRAIL - ELIZABETH LINE (LONDON) - C660 Project / Communication & Control Systems

It would have been much better to use a Quality/Safety ALM like SafetyCulture presented in the previous section would have been available in the CROSSRAIL/Siemens project to perform this EN50128 SW Assessment and all other SW reviews I executed throughout the C660 SW project lifecycle. I generated a lot of documentation that I had to manage without proper Configuration/Documentation Management Tool: this is a MAJOR weakness raised in the "SW Assessment" process, see below picture.

SW Assurance Non Conformances List

Few strengths have been raised against the SW Assesment process:

A Leadership Mindset, fixing issues on the field (GEMBA) with humility, rigor and ethics

A leader shares his/her knowledge, does not withhold information or engage in politics, initiates change on the field, uses state-of-the-art tools and processes, and encourages his/her colleagues to do the same by demonstrating the gains in efficiency, quality, reliability, safety, and costs for his/her team and company.

Program Manager (& hierarchical manager) in a small "projectized" organization (where PMs are both responsible for resources & budgets) as opposed to matrix (strong/weak) and functional organizations (where Discipline Managers are both responsible for resources and budgets): see interesting article on this topic

Scope: Develop and Maintain 3 Automotive SW Products for an OEM (PSA/Stellantis): DIAMUX products which are used by PSA to upgrade, calibrate & configure all ECUs on their vehicles in all manufacturing sites (HUGE PRESSION)

-
Management of 6 on-site PM, Architects/Engineers and 6 offshore Engineers based in Vietnam
-
Project Estimates and Scheduling, Project Tracking (see extract of Program & Workload Plan below - no ALM available, so created a fully automated plan in excel)
-
Creation of the first Project Dashboard (Top Risks/Issues, Progress, status)
-
Customer facing in a contentious context (very aggressive customer PM => 3 different PMs in 1 year only on our side), problems solving, reporting to our Management
-
Delivery of the Product releases (DIAMUX, OTTOMAN, ORUS DIAG + Evolutive & Corrective Maintenance Releases => 2-3 formal SW Product Releases per month)
-
Change Management and bugs tracking (Mantis Bug Tracker)
-
Improvement of the quality of the SW releases thanks to the hiring of a SW Requirement Engineer in charge of setting up a SW specification including tagged / labeled SW requirements with all required quality criteria (unique ID, atomic, verifiable, clear and non ambiguous, etc.) that are then traced to source code and test cases using state-of-the-art tool called Reqtify to manage all traceability and consistency metrics of our product development lifecycle
-
Significant increase of the agility and productivity of the Project Team via the hiring of an Open Source technologies (SVN) and Configuration/Build/Release Expert (Time needed to build a full SW release decreased from 1/1.5 days to approx. 4 hours)
-
Produced one of the key assets for our Technical and Financial offer (see below the entire workload plan including all team resources and all requirement, architecture, coding, testing, release tasks and covering all 3 SW tools/projects and evolutive and corrective maintenance WPs) that allowed the company to demonstrate our capability to achieve the program objectives and to be awarded on this DIAMUX program again (although there was a very contentious context between PSA (Stellantis) Project Manager and See4Sys SW Team)
-
I've been rewarded with a brand-new smartphone offered by the company

Recommendation from the Senior Business Manager in charge of PSA/Stellantis client

With this fully automated workload plan, we take into account all the available human resources for the DIAMUX program (in France and Vietnam), their leave and potential absences, all activities in the lifecycle of the 3 DIAMUX products, OTTOMAN, and ORUS DIAG along with the various Work Packages and the lots for evolutive and corrective maintenance, and the various/cross-functional assignments within the company. By assigning different loads to within 2 hours for different resources across the various products and lots, totals by resource and by country (France / Vietnam) are calculated automatically, and if the resources are underloaded or overloaded, the corresponding cells appear very visibly in green or red, which allows the Program Manager to smooth resources over time and make realistic estimates and plans to provide the best visibility to the client PSA and the internal Management.

This automated plan was a MAJOR ASSET (according to the Business Manager himself) during the presentation of our small Parisian site’s offer to PSA to obtain the new award for the DIAMUX program that saved the Paris offices which would have disappeared without this project, as Luis also indicated in his feedback.

Agile SCRUM: Product Breakdown/Backlog, Epics, User Stories Grooming, Definition of Done, Sprint Planning, Burndown Chart, Scrum ceremonies, etc.

I always worked hard for the World Citizen wellness, safety, quality of life, and health since my very first occupations. A partial summary of my accomplishments that demonstrate my humanism principles is shown below:

Enhancing and automating a test bench to characterize the "false brinelling effect" that could result in safety-critical flaws in ball bearing-based systems utilized in the transportation sector as a whole,

Participation to the development of a fully automated characterization flow for Radiofrequency receivers (Integrated Circuits - RF ICs) used in medical and automotive safety applications including insulin pumps and Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems,

Design and Development of an innovative, reliable, performant and cost-effective automated BER measurement system (Bit Error Rate used to evaluate the quality of RF ICs like the medical ones referenced in the previous achievement). This system has been validated by a giant semiconductor group which then used it for the characterization of RF ICs planned to be released for mass production. This system has been published via a technical contribution presented at the IEEE Conference in Toronto - 2005,

Model Based Design with automatic C source code generation, development, testing and quality assurance of Automotive Dynamic Exterior Lighting Systems (Automatic Dynamic Levelling, Dynamic Bending Light, Fixed Bending Light) providing the end-users with a better, safer and reliable vision experience,

Main actor of the FIRST SUCCESSFUL CMMI L2 certification in the French Industry, in this case an Automotive Tier-1, demonstrating we used to implement the best-in-class processes and tools to develop our safety critical Exterior Lighting Systems, thus drastically reducing the risks of car crash during night drive,

Working for EUMETSAT would perfectly align with my experience and would be part of the continuity of my humanistic vision of the Engineer/Manager in High Tech.

The EUMETSAT QA Manager role fits perfectly into the general trend of my career, which, as described below, has almost always been dedicated to enhancing the safety, security and well-being of the World Citizen.

Since I was very small, I have been passionate about atlases, world maps, globes, illustrated dictionaries with maps of the world, continents, countries, cities, etc., the series of encyclopedias, etc. I could draw the map of the world freehand and I knew the capitals of the whole world. I was interested in different climates, local languages, populations of major cities, customs, cultures, etc. Now, with the internet, it's even easier; I could easily find information about Frankfurt and I know I would really enjoy it there! Even the climate is one of the best among the major cities in Germany, including a micro-climate!

A passion for geography in general

Frankfurt
Frankfurt

Professional:

  • From QA/Safety Point of view: Most of my Quality/Safety Assurance experience has been executed in the automotive industry for medium/large scale production. However, I perfectly adapted to small scale production industry/domain when I worked at ALCATEL Space on Cannes site as System Engineer Intern (where I almost worked because I started a recruitment process for the Toulouse site but Valeo was quicker and was known as the best French company), SITA in London (Aviation / Air Transport Management), AUSY/SAGEM Defense in Paris (A400M Military Aircraft Navigation System), and SIEMENS Mobility in London & Ashby (CROSSRAIL - Elizabeth Line). In all roles, I exceeded the objectives defined by my management:

    • ALCATEL Space / THALES: The Systems Engineering team of the AURORA program, a science mission on Mars that served as our basis for UML modeling and simulating the generic avionics of Alcatel's satellites, insisted that I be the lead in terms of modeling avionics functions for the Data Handling Design Centre (DHDC) because they found that among the 4 engineers in it (1 Project Manager, 1 Portuguese external engineer, 2 intern engineers), I was the one generating the most realistic and reusable avionics function models (Electric Power Supply, Payload Management, TMTC, etc.) from one satellite to another. Therefore, I led the modeling of most of the generic avionics functions of Alcatel's satellites and presented the simulations to the managers and engineers of the DAV (Avionics Department). This was a true success, ahead of schedule compared to the embedded industry in general, as we were able to integrate this MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering) methodology and Avionics System Simulation upstream of the development phases (with the aim of reducing the costs of non-quality) into the Alcatel Space development standard as early as 2005, while in 2025 many companies are still at the beginning stages of MBSE with SysML and UML.

    • SITA: Autonomous in 6 weeks instead of 4 months, audited about 50 projects in 15 months for this large Delivery Assurance Program to successfully renew the CMMI L3 certification and get a great recommendation from the Senior Legal & Quality Operations Manager (see text at the right - his contact details are available on request, don't hesitate).

    • SIEMENS Mobility / CROSSRAIL - Elizabeth Line: The culture was very different from what I used to know in the automotive industry (VALEO, Renesas, Renault etc..) but I perfectly understood my mission there and I think, based on the feedback from my Manager that I totally satisfied the needs of SIEMENS and CROSSRAIL regarding the EN50126/8 SW Assessment activities (see section above where you'll find extracts of my EN50128 Assessment and a significant improvement  I initiated, the "DoD", Definition of Done, in the Agile process, that has been implemented in each User Story - click on picture at the right =>)

    • AUSY/SAGEM Defense: On the main project of the R&D Centre, I ensured full compliance with DO178B DAL A, CMMI L3 and EN 9100. On top of that, I set up and implemented from scratch the full Supplier Agreement Management Process as per CMMI L3 with an Indian vendor in charge of Unit and SW/SW Integration Testing. I have earned the right to hire 2 SWQA Engineers to work under my supervision on the Airbus A400M project and a new DCNS (now NAVAL Group) project.

  • Regarding Management experience, I have never had 40 engineers under my responsibility. Nevertheless, I quickly had technical and/or hierarchical responsibilities but with engineering teams ranging from one or two engineers to a maximum of 12 Project Manager, Architects, and Engineers both on-site and offshore. I like to give nearly complete autonomy to the engineers who work with me, while establishing a well-structured management framework that is shared with my teams. Thus, I use state-of-the-art tools to estimate, plan, monitor, and close the activities under my responsibility, and I hate to navigate blindly without providing visibility to my resources, my management, or myself.

    • In this context, as a Program Manager in 2010 in a small organization without ALM, I set up a complete automated Workload Plan in Excel (see & click on the picture at the right) that not only provided full visibility on the distribution of the 12 resources across the different products and batches to be delivered to the PSA client but also became a MAJOR asset in the new award for PSA's DIAMUX platform. It is also important for me to satisfy my team as well as my clients and managers, and I always strive to maintain an excellent relationship with the engineers who work with me, as you can see in the feedback from Luis and Odyssée at the bottom of the page. Moreover, if this is not clearly established in the processes of the organization in which I operate, I always aim to implement a 'Auditor's Code of Conduct' within the procedures governing my team's activities in order to prevent the harmful behaviors that can sometimes be observed in certain assessments / audits / reviews.

    • In LEM Tech France, I've been the first Engineer to use Codebeamer ALM to estimate, schedule, track and close the FuSa and QA tasks (transversal, process & project/product). I initiated these practices spontaneously, then the Line Manager decided to move the fuSa & SWQA Team Tasks plan and tracking from a basic excel sheet to Codebeamer trackers and metrics.

    • In QEV Technologies, as Safety & Quality Manager, I established a complete Quality/Safety Improvement Program Plan including a Road Map and a Budget that I got approved by Top Management at the beginning of my assignment there (see pictures at the right). I also created the  required Safety Plan of a Hybrid Electric/Hydrogen Powertrain in a very innovative way: planning & monitoring of all activities in the safety product life cycle using Tuleap ALM and its SCRUM features to break down the powertrain into Items (e.g. "Motor Control") represented by Epics and into work products (IDs, HARAs, FSCs) represented by User Stories (& tasks), themselves allocated to releases/sprints over time and assigned to the Safety/Security Engineer and myself.

Personnal:

Thanks to the very multicultural and modern environment of Frankfurt, I know that I would perfectly integrate into this city, like I did in London.

On top of that, I learned German for 5 years in middle and high school, although it was optional for the last 3 years. I admit I had excellent results in middle school but struggled a bit in high school, having German classes in the evening from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM with a very unencouraging teacher.

I still managed to score 11/20 in the oral German exam, during which the teacher noted that I had an excellent accent. Then I took German again at the IUP GEII Bordeaux (which was meant, by definition and in practice, to be of the same excellence as the Grandes Écoles of Engineering since we shared the same courses, tutorials, exams, and even facilities as L'ENSEIRB-MATMECA, a top 20 engineering school in France, located just a few dozen meters from the IUP) for 2 years. Therefore, it would only take me an intensive evening training course of 2-3 weeks to become autonomous in my private life.

I also learned classical music through piano and complete music theory (solfeggio) by taking private lessons for 5 years. I played one of the waltzes by the German composer Brahms at the annual concert in front of about fifty spectators, and I particularly enjoy Johann Sebastian Bach and Beethoven.

Moreovereven though since 1995/1996 French electronic music, the famous "French Touch", has dominated international competition both in quantity and quality (Daft Punk, Modjo, Kavinsky, Air, French 79, Bon Entendeur, NTO, Vitalic, Kid Francescoli, La Femme, Weekend Affair, Elephanz, Phoenix, M83, Justice, etc...), just as the English and Americans did with rock (and its derivatives) in the 60s-70s-80s-early 90s, I really LOVE a lot of German bands/artists of immense talent:

  • MEUTE is a Techno Marching Band - eleven drummers and horn players from Hamburg/Germany who fulfill the role of a DJ with their acoustic instruments. I have friends in Bordeaux, France, whom I met during my studies at the University, who formed a "Banda" made up of about ten musicians playing brass and percussion instruments, exactly the same concept as that awesome German group MEUTE, which adds electronic sound in concert but remains totally acoustic in many cases like in this superb cover of "You & Me" by the artist Flume in Berlin's Görlitzer Park. You can't die without seeing Venice, and you also can't die without listening to this gem from this group from Hamburg that combines genius and the joy of life, simple and humble.

  • CRO describes his music as a mixture between rap and pop. The hype has been initiated by his music video-turned-viral phenomenon "Easy" with over 40 million views on YouTube and nominations at the MTV Music Awards.

  • Marlon Hoffstadt, better known as DJ Daddy Trance, is a prominent German DJ, producer, and founder hailing from Berlin, Germany. Renowned for his dynamic and versatile approach to electronic music genres such as techno, house, trance, and Eurodance, Marlon has left an indelible mark on the music industry. He also made a superb remix of the single "Easy" by the German rapper CRO mentioned above, I add the YouTube link.

  • Oliver Koletzki (born in Braunschweig on October 5, 1974) is a German dance and house music producer and DJ. He is currently based in Berlin, Germany. I'm adding 2 very good singles of this german artist who deserves more visibility:

  • Daso Franke was born in Poona, India, but made his mark in the electronic music world after relocating to Germany—first in Cologne, then Berlin. His earliest releases came out in the mid-2000s on the Cologne-based My Best Friend label. He went on to build a strong following with releases on a diverse set of imprints, including Ghostly sister label Spectral Sound, Richard Zepezauer's Nsyde and Bedrock Records. Daso died at age 37 from cancer. One of my favorite single is Meine, great job!

  • MODERAT german electronic music band created an excellent single called A New Error  that I DO recommend

  • And I know quite a lot of other german artists who do great job as well ! Example: Kellerkind - Disco on the Dancefloor (Fantastic German music, video, and atmosphere)

So, as you can see, I'm already in love with Frankfurt and Germany!

Frankfurt is THE multicultural city and I was born in the largest and very multicultural suburban city in France (Villeurbanne) and the second largest agglomeration in France (Lyon). Since my early teenagehood, I have always been attracted to diversity and have always been in multicultural friend (Khafid, Sofiane, Saousan, Bilel, Nelito...) and colleague (Mihai, Meenakshi, José, Maria...) groups. Germany is a country of music, and I am a music fan; I practice it with guitar and piano, and I listen to a lot of it. Germany (and Frankfurt) is a country and city of football, and I am a high-level amateur football player as well as a supporter of both football (Lyon 3-2 Frankfurt on 12/12/2024 in Europa League🙂). I no longer speak German fluently, but I studied it for 7 years in high school and university, and I took 2 years of Latin (whose grammatical structure is curiously similar to German, with the verb at the end of the sentence). Since I was 6 years old, I have done a lot of sports, sometimes at a high level, particularly in football, and Germany is a country of sports, a country that promotes good physical health. I have a background as a humanist (like the engineering school I am currently trying to pass) and EUMETSAT fits completely within this spirit, and from the outside, Germany and Frankfurt do too.

Feedback from my Manager at SITA (Aviation)

I worked closely with Antoine for over one year on an intensive and complex delivery assurance program. Antoine reviewed high profile projects, focusing on project management, supplier management and product development. Antoine brings strong and current engineering skills: software development lifecycle, testing, configuration management, agile methods. He has deep knowledge of project management and is an expert in MS Project. I’d say the characteristic that made Antoine successful is his ability to apply deep knowledge practically in an imperfect world. He demonstrated pragmatism and adaptability and always engaged constructively with stakeholders. I'm pleased to give this personal recommendation and would welcome working together again. I would be happy to evidence Antoine’s suitability in specific written reference or via phone call. My contact details are available on request."

ECSS (European Cooperation for Space Standardization)

I visited the currently active ECSS standards web page and downloaded them all. I particularly started to integrate the standard 'ECSS-Q-ST-80C Rev.1 SW Product Assurance' into the ALM SafetyCulture to have an audit template available as the images show at the end of the first section of this page.

I am the Community Manager of my father's and his friends' Rock/Folk/Blues band (7 musicians). They mainly cover classic folk/country/blues songs from the 60s-70s with quality instrumentation and high-level professional amplification  thanks to their Marshall A50D acoustic amp. offered by myself. Their band is called 'The Master Camp Social Club' and mainly performs in the eastern part of France (Burgundy and Franche-Comté). Their website is available at this link (english version in progress): https://folk.pragmarc.com/

We took on Antoine to specifically address software safety assurance for a large rail project. The software development was already reasonably progressed, but in need of independent software assurance and EN50128 compliance demonstration. Antoine demonstrated great ability to able join an established project (with existing working practices and procedures) and bolster the processes, plan and conduct audits and produce recommendations effectively, where others may easily have disrupted on-going work. Antoine was an effective software processes assessor and auditor. Antoine is able to progress issues effectively, with minimal supervision. Similarly, his knowledge of, and ability to pick support tools and working environment with minimal input was most welcome at such a critical stage of the project.

Kevin Toon (retired) - Engineering Safety Manager - CROSSRAIL Siemens C660 Project (Communication & Control Systems)
